Itinerary

To give you the best possible experience during your Visit to Machu Picchu on Vistadome trains, we include an assistance call on the day before your service, during which you will be given a specific pickup time from your accommodation in the historic center of Cusco.

Two and a half hours before your train departs, our staff will pick you up and take you to the Ollantaytambo train station, where you will board your assigned train for a journey of approximately 01 hour and 40 minutes through the Machu Picchu Canyon to the town of Aguas Calientes, or Machu Picchu Pueblo. There, one of our representatives will be waiting to assist you, because to reach Machu Picchu you still need to take a bus ride of approximately 20 minutes that will take you right to the entrance gate. From there, together with your group and guide, you will go through the designated checkpoints and finally begin your visit to Machu Picchu, which lasts approximately 02 hours and 30 minutes. Afterwards, your guide will help you board the bus back to Aguas Calientes and, after some free time, you will head to the train station to take the return service to your station of origin, where our team will be waiting to take you back to Cusco on a further journey of approximately 02 hours.

Recommendations

  • Don't forget to bring the passports and/or ID documents used to issue your Machu Picchu tickets.
  • Along the way you will find many places where you can use credit cards; however, keep in mind there will always be somewhere that only accepts cash, so remember to exchange money the day before you leave.
  • The luggage allowance on board the trains on this route is specifically 05 kilograms; however, allowing for some tolerance, you can most likely bring one small personal bag per person. If you bring large suitcases, you will very likely have to pay extra charges, which apply to both the outbound and the return journeys.
  • Don't forget to bring insect repellent, sunscreen and any prescription medication you need to take.
  • The climate in Machu Picchu is warmer than in Cusco; however, being in the heart of the Andes, dressing in layers is the best way to cope with the constant changes in temperature you will experience.
  • Remember that trains are subject to availability, which must be checked at the time you make your booking. If this option is not available, ask about our services on board the Expedition, Vistadome observatory and Hiram Bingham trains.
