Itinerary:
04:00 – 18:00:
This service begins early in the morning when the team picks you up from your accommodation in Cusco.
First, you will head to the town of Cusipata, where a restaurant has been reserved for your breakfast and lunch. This first part of the journey takes about 2 hours. There, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast with a mix of local and national ingredients.
After breakfast, you’ll travel for about 1 hour to the parking area at Vinicunca (Phulawasipata). Once you arrive, the professional guide will provide safety instructions and necessary information for the hike. The route has a medium-high difficulty level due to the geographic area and altitude.
At this site, you will find restrooms and souvenir shops, and we will meet with the muleteer who will provide the horses. The horseback ride makes the journey easier, but please note that the horses will only take you to the base of the mountain. From there, you’ll have a 10-minute walk to reach the summit. You will have time to enjoy the landscape and take beautiful photos. Afterward, we will return by horseback along the same route.
Transportation will be waiting for you at the parking lot to take you back to the restaurant in Cusipata and finally return to the city of Cusco.
Recommendations:
- We recommend saving high-altitude activities like this for the last days of your itinerary to allow your body to better acclimate, as you will be walking at an altitude of over 5,200 meters above sea level.
- Don’t forget to bring cash for entrance fees and additional expenses.
- Make sure to bring water and some snacks to enjoy during the hike.
- Dress in layers to better adapt to the changing mountain climate.
- The best option is to wear specialized hiking shoes.
