About the Destination
Palcoyo is one of the Rainbow Mountains of Cusco, located in the rural community of Palcoyo, in the district of Checacupe, Canchis province, at an altitude of around 4,900 meters (16,000 ft) above sea level.
This breathtaking Andean landscape within the Vilcanota mountain range features three colorful mountains, some with natural jasped patterns, a unique stone forest, and, on clear days, stunning views of Apu Ausangate, the highest and most sacred mountain in Cusco.

Itinerary: Palcoyo Private Tour
- Pick-up time: Between 4:00 – 5:00 a.m. (based on your availability).
- Drive for about 1 hour and 30 minutes to the town of Cusipata, where breakfast will be served.
- Continue along scenic mountain roads for about 1 hour of ascent until reaching the Palcoyo parking area, the starting point of your trek.
- After a 10-minute walk, you’ll see the first of the three colorful mountains. The highest viewpoint is reached in about 40 minutes of light hiking.
- Enjoy spectacular views of the Palcoyo Range, the stone forest, and, with luck, the mighty Ausangate Mountain.
- Return along the same route, stopping again in Cusipata for lunch before heading back to Cusco, arriving around 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
