Itinerary

To give you the best experience on your Machu Picchu Visit on Vistadome Observatory Trains, we include an assistance call that you will need to make the day before your service; you will then be given a specific pick-up time from your accommodation in Cusco's historic centre.

Two and a half hours before your train departs, our staff will pick you up and take you to Ollantaytambo train station, where you will board your assigned train and set off on a journey of approximately 01 hour and 40 minutes through the Machu Picchu Canyon to the town of Aguas Calientes, or Machu Picchu Pueblo. There, one of our representatives will be waiting to assist you. Remember that to reach Machu Picchu you still need to take a bus of about 20 minutes to the entrance gate itself, where, together with your group and guide, you will go through the assigned checkpoints and finally begin your visit to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, which lasts approximately 02 hours and 30 minutes. Afterwards, your guide will help you board the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you will probably have some free time before heading to the train station for your return service, which will take you back to the departure station. Our team will be waiting there to drive you back to Cusco, a further journey of approximately 02 hours.

Recommendations

  • Don't forget to bring the passports and/or ID documents used to issue the Machu Picchu tickets.
  • Along the way you will find many places that accept credit cards; however, remember there will always be somewhere that requires cash, so don't forget to change money the day before your departure.
  • The luggage allowance on board the trains on this route is specifically 05 kilograms; however, with the usual tolerance you can most likely bring one small personal bag per person. If you bring large suitcases, you will very likely have to pay extra fees, which apply on both the outbound and return journeys.
  • Don't forget to bring insect repellent, sunscreen and any prescription medication you need to take.
  • The weather in Machu Picchu is warmer than in Cusco; however, since you will be in the heart of the Andes, dressing in layers is the best way to handle the constant changes in temperature you will face.
  • Remember that trains are subject to availability, which must be checked when you make your booking. If this option is not available, ask about our services on board the Expedition, Vistadome and Hiram Bingham trains.
  • Machu Picchu tickets are subject to availability at the time of booking the service across the various routes, so book as far in advance as possible.
