Itinerary:
08:00 – 09:00: As this is a private activity, you can choose this time frame to begin the tour as described below.
Leaving the city with your guide, you will travel the first stretch of approximately 48 kilometers in the next hour to reach one of the most enigmatic Inca sanctuaries, Killarumiyoq, which during the Inca period served as a place of worship for the moon deity.
After an additional hour of travel, you will arrive at Limatambo, where you will visit its archaeological site, one of the few remaining ceremonial Inca structures that have survived to this day.
After this visit, you will have lunch at a local restaurant and then head to Chonta, which you will reach in about an hour. Once in the village, you will complete the necessary registration and pay the entry fee to begin the walk to the viewpoint, which is about an hour and a half away on foot. The tour is designed to be at this viewpoint between 3 and 4 PM, as this is the time when strong winds bring the condors back to this part of the Apurímac Canyon.
After observing these majestic birds for about two hours, you will walk back to the parking area and return to Cusco. You will arrive in Cusco at approximately 8:00 PM.
Recommendations:
- We recommend leaving high-altitude activities for the final days of your itinerary. This will allow your body to acclimatize better, as you will need to walk at an altitude of over 4200 meters in Chonta.
- Don’t forget to bring cash for entrance fees and additional expenses, as well as water and some snacks to enjoy while watching the condors’ flight.
- Dress in layers to better manage the changing mountain weather.
- The best option is to wear specialized hiking shoes.
